Reminders & notifications
How they work
- Every item with a date gets reminders N days before expiry – by default 3 days, 1 day and on the day.
- Notifications arrive once a day at the household's notification time (9:00 by default) to all members who have them turned on.
- Several items on the same day are combined into one message, e.g. "3 items – the first one tomorrow". Tap it to open the app.
- For opened packages the earlier date counts (see Open packages).
Turning them on
Notifications are turned on on each device separately (phone, tablet, computer): Overview → Turn on, or Settings → Notifications → Turn on, and allow them in the browser. Check with Send a test notification.
iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4 and later) only deliver notifications to an app added to the home screen: Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen, then open Spotrebio from the home screen and turn notifications on there.
Settings
- Settings → Household: Notification time and Time zone (a change also reschedules pending reminders) and Default reminders for new items.
- In the item detail you can set reminders differently from the default (e.g. 5 days ahead for expensive meat).
- Settings → Notifications → Notify me about items in … – turn off if you do not want reminders from a particular household even though you are a member.
Weekly e-mail summary
On Monday morning (after the notification time) we can e-mail you what expires this week, what is already past its date and how much you threw away last week. Set it in Settings → Notifications → Weekly e-mail summary:
- Automatic (default) – only when notifications are not turned on on any of your devices, e.g. on an iPhone where the app is not on the home screen.
- Always – also alongside notifications.
- Never.
The summary is only sent to a confirmed e-mail. You can also unsubscribe with the link at the end of the e-mail.
Notifications do not arrive
- Check that notifications are allowed in the system (phone Settings → Notifications → Spotrebio / the browser).
- Do Not Disturb or battery saving may delay them.
- On iPhone the app must be opened from the home screen, not from Safari.
- After clearing browser data, notifications have to be turned on again.
